Amanda Knox Sues for Conviction Dropped as Human Rights Violated

New Slander Case in Italy

Updated 706 AM PDT April 10, 2024, FLORENCE, Italy (AP)

Amanda Knox, who was wrongfully convicted and spent four years in prison in Italy for the 2007 murder of her British roommate Meredith Kercher, has filed a lawsuit requesting that her conviction be overturned. This comes after the European Court of Human Rights ruled that her defense rights had been violated during the initial trial.

Meanwhile, Knox has appeared in court for a new slander trial in Italy, accused of making false statements during a 2019 trial related to the same murder case. The prosecution alleges that Knox lied during an outburst in court, accusing an innocent Congolese man of killing Kercher.

Knox's attorney, Carlo Dalla Vedova, has denied the accusations and maintained that Knox's statements were made under duress during a stressful and emotional trial. The outcome of this slander trial is yet to be determined.
