Amos Gitai Dismisses Boycott Calls For Venice Film ‘Why War’; Says Both Hamas and Israel’s Far-Right Government Need To Go: “This Cannot Go On”

Renowned Israeli filmmaker Amos Gitai has dismissed calls for a boycott of his latest film, "Why War," at the Venice Film Festival.

Gitai, who has been a vocal critic of both Hamas and Israel's far-right government, said that the boycott calls were "absurd" and that his film was "a call for peace."

The calls for a boycott of "Why War" came from a group of pro-Palestinian activists who accused Gitai of "whitewashing" Israel's occupation of the Palestinian territories.

Gitai has denied these accusations, saying that his film is "a complex and nuanced look at the Israeli-Palestinian conflict." He added that he believes that both Hamas and Israel's far-right government are obstacles to peace.

"This cannot go on," Gitai said. "We need to find a way to live together in peace. This film is my contribution to that effort."

The Venice Film Festival will run from August 31 to September 10. "Why War" will be screened on September 8.
